there are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in china. on the one hand, some of the western holidays which we chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father’s day and april fool’s day etc. on the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china. overwhelmed by such a trend,chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

with the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. we are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth.the only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? the answer is definitely no. what we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us.

here is a real story that once happened in my math class. mr. yang, our math teacher, wanted to know whether we had understood the main purpose of solving the problem. so he asked us seriously: “our aim is?” in no time, almost everyone replied together: “no decayed teeth!” we burst out laughing then because it was well-known that “our aim is no decayed teeth!” was the language in a toothpaste advertisement! it is just a joke, however it proves the language in advertisement really influences our daily life.

obviously, the advertisement aims to attract the customers’ attention and to promote sales. a successful advertisement must be apt at creating beautiful image by means of creative language e_pressions. in this case, there’s no doubt that this advertisement for the toothpaste has achieved this aim. and the possibility that we will buy this brand of toothpaste increases as we can easily remember the vivid language in the advertisement while standing in front of the goods shelves.

generally speaking, based on many novel methods, advertisement language has acquired distinctive features: conciseness, vividness and uniqueness. it does make our daily life more colorful and interesting. just as another advertisement goes: “the world is a much better place because of you!”

( applause.) this is my first time back here in quite a while. i"m sure that each of you will make your own journey back at least a few times in your life. if you"re like me, you won"t remember everything you did here. (laughter.) that can be a good thing. (laughter.) but there will be some people, and some moments, you will never forget. take, for example, my old classmate, dick brodhead, the accomplished dean of this great university. (applause.) i remember him as a young scholar, a bright lad -- (laughter) -- a hard worker. we both put a lot of time in at the sterling library, in the reading room, where they have those big leather couches. (laughter.) we had a mutual understanding -- dick wouldn"t read aloud, and i wouldn"t snore. (laughter.) our course selections were different, as we followed our own path to academic discovery. dick was an english major, and loved the classics. i loved history, and pursued a diversified course of study. i like to think of it as the academic road less traveled. (laughter.) for example, i took a class that studied japanese haiku. haiku, for the uninitiated, is a 15th century form of poetry, each poem having 17 syllables. haiku is fully understood only by the zen masters. as i recall, one of my academic advisers was worried about my selection of such a specialized course. he said i should focus on english. (laughter.) i still hear that quite often. ( laughter.) but my critics don"t realize i don"t make verbal gaffes. i"m speaking in the perfect forms and rhythms of ancient haiku. (applause.) i did take english here, and i took a class called "the history and practice of american oratory," taught by rollin g. osterweis. (laughter.) as a student, i tried to keep a low profile. it worked. last year the new york times interviewed john morton blum because the record showed i had taken one of his courses. casting his mind"s eye over the parade of young faces down through the years, professor blum said, and i quote, "i don"t have the foggiest recollection of him." (laughter.) but i remember professor blum. and i still recall his dedication and high standards of learning. in my time there were many great professors at yale. and there still are. they"re the ones who keep yale going after the commencements, after we have all gone our separate ways. i"m not sure i remembered to thank them the last time i was here, but now that i have a second chance, i thank the professors of yale university. (applause.) that"s how i"ve come to feel about the yale experience -- grateful. i studied hard, i played hard, and i made a lot of lifelong friends. what stays with you from college is the part of your education you hardly ever notice at the time. it"s the expectations and examples around you, the ideals you believe in, and the friends you make. in my time, they spoke of the "yale man." i was really never sure what that was. but i do think that i"m a better man because of yale. all universities, at their best, teach that degrees and honors are far from the full measure of life. nor is that measure taken in wealth or in titles. what matters most are the standards you live by, the consideration you show others, and the way you use the gifts you are given. now you leave yale behind, carrying the written proof of your success here, at a college older than america. when i left here, i didn"t have much in the way of a life plan. i knew some people who thought they did. but it turned out that we were all in for ups and downs, most of them unexpected. life takes its own turns, makes its own demands, writes its own story. and along the way, we start to realize we are not the author. we begin to understand that life is ours to live, but not to waste, and that the greatest rewards are found in the commitments we make with our whole hearts -- to the people we love and to the causes that earn our sacrifice. i hope that each of you will know these rewards. i hope you will find them in your own way and your own time. for some, that might mean some time in public service. and if you hear that calling, i hope you answer. each of you has unique gifts and you were given them for a reason. use them and share them. public service is one way -- an honorable way -- to mark your life with meaning. today i visit not only my alma mater, but the city of my birth. my life began just a few blocks from here, but i was raised in west texas. from there, yale always seemed a world away, maybe a part of my future. now it"s part of my past, and yale for me is a source of great pride. i hope that there will come a time for you to return to yale to say that, and feel as i do today. and i hope you won"t wait as long. congratulations and god bless. 一、注意高一与初中的衔接过渡

四、激发学生学习英语的兴趣

一、生情、学情分析

这学期我担任的.是高三C268及新理艺班的英语教学工作，新理艺班是这个学期新接手的，C268的基础稍好点，不过成绩不平衡，冒尖的同学不多。但作为艺术生大部分同学都畏惧英语，对英语学习感到头疼。

二、研究课标、高考，认真制定和落实教学计划

1、认真学习课标及课程教学指导意见，课程标准是落实教学目标、培养学生能力及高考命卷的依据。省颁课程教学指导意见及市颁复习建议，是我们在《考试说明》出台之前，我们复习教学的依据。

2、认真研究高考。高考命卷的原则是“稳中求新”，因此有必要认真研究考纲和考试说明，了解高考要求。同时还认真分析了近几年高考英语试卷，尤其是课改省份高考试卷，把握高考英语命题方向，特别是高考新题型，做到心中有数。注意收集高考信息，使高三英语复习不偏离方向，把有限的时间用在刀刃上。

3、精选试题，以高考经典题为重心，尽量避免“题海战”。

4、备课组认真制定教学复习计划，统一的教学进度、教学要求，资源共享，切实提高复习效率。

三、有的放矢开展复习工作

依据学情，我们的学生迫切需要的是进行基础知识的复习上巩固和加深对基础知识的理解和掌握，提升期解决问题的能力，因此本学期的教学重点是“依纲靠本”，注重课本知识复习。认真抓好了如下工作：

1、大量练习促进学生对基础知识的巩固和能力的提高。

课本复习是学生能力提高的关键。从开学之初即对课本知识点认真归纳和总结，通过练习的形式进行学习反馈。主要是各地市的模拟试卷，认真把握教学工作中的练习环节。

2、听力训练作好提高成绩保障。

本学期我们征订了一套听力风暴，供学生在课上或晚自习前20分钟进行听力训练之用。这套材料是高考播音者录制的，含金量高，所以标准的听力材料成为学生最为得益的听力助手。

3、扩大阅读，培养英语能力。

课外阅读必不可少。我们定期给学生提供了一些适当的英语阅读材料，兼顾新闻、娱乐、科技、校园、地道美文等多方面内容。学生除了可以增加阅读量还可以把一些精彩的文章当作范文来背诵。这不仅提高了学生的学习兴趣，也丰富和开拓了学生的视野。

1、深入细致地备好每一节课

在备课过程中，我认真研究教材，力求准确把握重点、难点。并注重参阅相关辅助资料，根据自己的学生特点，认真编写教案。我们做老师的不仅要备透教材，更应备到我们自己学生的具体特点和实际情况。这个学期，为了提高课堂教学的容量和质量。基本上每节新课我都利用了多媒体辅助教学。尽管大大的扩大了我的工作量，但是提高了课堂教学质量，心里是很高兴的。

2、认真上好每一节课

在充分备课的基础上，每节课都能以饱满的热情，温和、友善的态度面对学生，尽可能地保证每节课的教学质量，提高课堂45分钟的效率。做一个教师最主要的职责就是要把课上好。一个老师如果连课都上不好的话，就无法得到学生的喜爱和尊敬，也就无法在学生当中树立威信，所以课堂教学质量也就无法提高。所以一个教师不仅要有人格魅力，也要有课堂魅力。

本学期我担任高二（7）（8）班的英语科教学。在教学中我结合本校学生的实际情况，精心备课，积极听课、评课，认真有效上课，课内外知识相结合，课后针对上课情况，做好教学反思。分层选择适合学生学情的作业，及时批改讲评，注重培养学生综合运用英语能力。提高学生学习兴趣，夯实基础。现将本学期教学工作小结如下：

一、了解学情，有的放矢

学生基础比较薄弱，有一部分学生对英语没有兴趣，也没有探究精神，学生所问的问题屈指可数。多数学生自学能力很差，学习没有计划性和策略性，但是上课大多比较认真，只是不踊跃，学生的词汇记忆比较薄弱。我在备课中充分考虑到学生实情，在日常的教学中特别重视学生对词汇的学习与积累，要求单词每课过关，并且每课都进行单词听写，不断督促学生多背单词、短语及一些好的句子，适时向学生介绍常用的词汇学习策略。经过我的努力，学生英语学习兴趣有了提高，成绩有了进步。

二、认真备好每一堂课，注重结合学生学情

我做到认真备课。上好一堂课难，但是要备好一堂课更难。在备课之前，对教材内容做到心中有数，并参考相关资料，认真钻研教材，确定重难点；同时，备课不仅要备教材，而且还要备教法，好好地利用我们的教辅，英语周报；除此之外，更要备学生，了解学生原有的知识技能的质量，他们的兴趣、需要、方法、习惯，学习新知识可能会有哪些困难，根据学生的实际情况（即学情）采用适合易于他们接受的教学手段，不断培养学生的学习英语的兴趣。认真写好教案，对每一节课都做到“有备而来”。备好课之后，组织展开教学活动也十分重要，在每一次的教学中，我都注意尽可能把原本枯燥的知识点生动化，为学生营造一种自然轻松的课堂气氛。在课堂中注重文化的渗透，在教学中我会适当给学生播放一些片段，使文化的渗透显得更直观，同时，课堂也更有气氛。多鼓励，少批评。为了使学生更爱开口，在练习中，要重视运用鼓励性语言，不断强化学生参加交际的信心。课后及时对授课做出反思，总结其中不足。

三、课外加强听、读、练，认真批改每一次作业。

英语是一种语言。困此，在课堂之外，多读、多听、多练是十分必要的。为此，每一次的早读，我坚持了解早读情况，发现问题及时纠正。并鼓励学生多去背诵课文中较好的句子，让学生在背诵中不断提高他们自己的语言的语感。另外，由于部分学生对单词的记忆显得比较被动，这学期我坚持每周听写，每天布置学生完成十个单词的背诵并采取部分或全部抽查等不同方式检查，对部分不自觉的同学还采取强硬背诵等方式，提高他们的能力。另外，为了提高英语听力，除了经常给学生播放课文录音外，还坚持让每个班的学生利用课外时间每周至少听一次英语周报听力。

认真批改作业。布置作业时，坚持做到有针对性，有层次性，形式多样化。每个学生对课堂上的知识掌握程度，都会在作业中得以直接体现出来。对于难度较大的题目，学生出现错误较多的作业，课上利用时间统一详细讲评每个错误；对于学生不该出现的问题，指导学生及时纠正。每周进行一次听写测试，对所学新单词、新短语、好句子进行听写。认真及时地批改听写。并针对学生的听写情况，认真透彻地进行讲评，根据其情况不断改进教法。从而做到因材施教，教学相长。

当然，一学期的教学工作非三言两语所能说完。总的来说，学生的上课热情提高了，课后补缺补漏的也多了，然而成绩的提高还需一段时间，另外，始终使我忧心忡忡的学生词汇量不足的情况在这学期显得格外突出。在后面一年半时间我需要去面对并找到更好的解决办法。在努力上好课之余，为了不断提高自身水平及业务能力。我积极参加各种讲座，经常利用各校公开周的机会去听课“取经”，不断给自己“充电”，以适应时代发展对于教师职业技能的要求。以上就是我在本学期的教学工作总结。由于经验颇浅，许多地方存在不足，我还在不断地摸索前进。希望在未来的日子里取得更好成绩。

本学期分两个阶段，先是对选修七和八的讲解，学期后进入了新高三的大一轮复习。对每个阶段的教学，我们都在备课组内先进行认真的讨论，并结合学情进行取舍，真正做到了用因材施教。所以课前我认真备教材，备学生，教学资料分出重点与难点，掌握知识的逻辑，构建知识的框架。更重要的是要了解学生原有的基础水平并采取相应的教学手段和教学策略，课后再及时进行反思小结，这样不断提高自我的业务水平。

二、课堂上努力调动学生的进取性和主动性，并激发他们学习英语的兴趣

如何让学生对学习感兴趣，这就很有讲究了。讲课生动，难易适中，顾全大局，就自然能够吸引学生。所以，我每一天都尽量使自我有充足的精神，这样，授课就事半功倍。在备课时我从学情实际出发，立足现实，精心寻找突破口，设计出不一样层次的教学资料，想方设法使每一位同学都能参与到我的课堂中来，让他们在每节课上都有收获。英语的重要性自不必说，要让学生喜爱英语，不是一件容易的事情。有了兴趣，学习就不再是负担。仅有在教学中培养学生的学习兴趣，才能增强教学效果。我就把语言教学与生活联系起来，课堂上鼓励学生，培养他们的自信心，做到多表扬，少批评，不断强化学生的自我学习意识。同时努力与学生搞好关系，与他们拉近距离，进一步培养学生正确的学习态度和良好的学习习惯。

三、进取参与听课、评课，虚心向同行学习教学方法

我经常参加校内外听评课活动，不断汲取他人的宝贵经验。并且多向经验丰富的教师请教并经常在一齐讨论如何讲好某一节课，如何向学生呈现某一知识点等教学问题。

四、做好后进生转化工作

我常常很体谅后进生。在学习上后进的学生，往往得不到教师的肯定，而后进生转化成功与否，直接影响着全班学生的整体成绩及班级稳定。所以，我一如既往地注意抓好后进生转化工作。首先善于帮忙他们找到自我的优点，先把自信心树立起来。其次以平常的心态尽量公平地对待后进生，苛责他们只能适得其反，我及时发现他们的闪光点并加之表扬，真正做到晓之以理，动之以情，让他们感受到我的爱。

五、利用好教辅材料

在本学期，我们用的教辅材料，我们让它充分发挥作用。每周进行习题训练，精选习题并加之巩固练习。单元检测上的经过我精选的题，要求大家认真去完成并及时讲评。完形填空及阅读理解作为考试的小半壁江山，我们尤其重视。另外，我们每班有1先进排头兵，鼓励她们所学资料必须背诵，必须默写，我都采取当面批改并做上已过标记，经过一段时光的训练，学生都已经习惯了这种学习模式，并主动来要求过关。我认为本学期我在学生主动学习方面取得了不错的成效。

六、词汇教学

Like any natural force, gravity pull can work with us or against us. The gravity pull of some of our habits may currently be keeping us from going where we want to go. But it is also gravity pull that keeps our world together, that keeps the planets in their orbits and our universe in order. It is a powerful force, and if we use it effectively, we can use the gravity pull of habit to create the cohesiveness and order necessary to establish effectiveness in our lives.
